The 75 Hard Challenge: Unrealistic Expectations and a Realistic Alternative

75 hard challenge

Hey there, my fellow fighters for a better life! 💙 I’m sure you’ve all heard about the infamous 75 hard challenge! And if not, we’re going to find out…

I hope this blog post finds you feeling energized and ready to take on the world, unlike me—I’m currently battling with my cramps and feeling less lively than usual. But hey, that won’t stop me from sharing my thoughts on this 75 Hard Challenge that seems to have wreaked havoc on my mood. Seriously, what was I thinking, believing in someone else’s idea of a perfect workout routine or how life should be? They don’t even know me personally!

So, let’s get real here. It’s not realistic for me, or anyone with a menstrual cycle for that matter, to work out every single day without taking a break. This isn’t an excuse; it’s a monthly occurrence that we can’t avoid unless we’re pregnant (and trust me, that’s not what I’m aiming for!) But somehow, I fell into the trap and made the mistake of shifting my goal from self-improvement to pushing my limits. And let me tell you, that’s not what I signed up for.

What is 75 Hard?

The 75 Hard Challenge is the brainchild of Andy Frisella, a total boss in the world of entrepreneurship and motivation. He came up with this challenge to help people step out of their comfort zones, amp up their mental toughness, and unleash their inner beasts. But let me tell you, this challenge is not for the faint of heart. Here are the 5 key rules that define the 75 Hard Challenge:

Not Everything’s Bad!

Now, don’t get me wrong, it’s not all negative. There are some positive aspects to this challenge. I do feel good and more in control of myself, and there are plenty of things to be grateful for. But the most significant downside is that it has left me feeling less energetic and burdened with guilt for enjoying things I like. Feeling guilty about being true to yourself is a complete buzzkill, not just when it comes to food, but also in relationships, friendships, and life decisions. We don’t deserve to feel that way, do we?

But here’s the thing:

What should we do when we’re feeling low and in need of proper rest? Are we supposed to force ourselves to work out for 45 minutes? Absolutely not! We need to listen to our bodies and give ourselves the rest we deserve. If it’s raining outside or even worse, a shit storm, do we really have to go for a walk in the playground? Nope! The world won’t come crashing down if we don’t do things that are beyond our control. It’s a universal law—accept what you can’t change, or you’ll just end up miserable while nothing changes. Complaining won’t get us anywhere. Sometimes, it’s about maintaining our sanity.

And speaking of sanity, what about reading 10 pages from a book when we have a pounding headache and a long day behind us? Should we push through and force-feed our minds with knowledge when they’re not even receptive? Books are meant to teach, not to be shoved down our throats like a brick. Just because someone made a rule doesn’t mean we don’t have our own brains to make decisions for ourselves.

Final Thoughts

The truth is, not everything that everyone else says is true. We’re all unique individuals, and while I don’t want to cast the 75 Hard Challenge in a completely negative light, I must admit it’s not realistic. To prioritize your health and incorporate adequate breaks into your journey, let me introduce you to a better alternative—a challenge that focuses on personal growth without feeling guilty about your actions.
